Root Beer Glaze

This is a simple glaze that might be familiar to you. It’s great on smoked or roasted meats. The original recipe we used was simply too sweet — it would have been great on ice cream (and you could omit the spice to accomplish that!). We added more mustard, which you can substitute with any kind of hot sauce.

Root Beer Glaze Recipe

  • 1 cup root beer (any kind, just not diet)

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup ketchup

  • 1-2 tablespoons mustard or hot sauce, to taste

Put all ingredients in a sauce pan over medium-low heat. Bring to a simmer, and cook until it starts to thicken. Don’t be tempted to turn up the heat, because if it gets away from you it will scorch. And keep in mind it will thicken more as it cools.
